Are you happy or satisfied?

Talking with a client the other day, the question of their being happy with their work life came up.

They felt they had done all the could where they are but just didn’t feel happy.

After further questioning and discussion we came to the conclusion that they were in fact happy, they just weren’t satisfied.

By definition happiness is a positive emotional state that brings pleasure, joy, and contentment.

Their work environment brought all these things. They loved the company they worked for, they enjoyed going to work and were content with what they did.

We discussed the Spiritual gifting test that all my coaching clients take and went over the results again.

You see they were designed for something that was in a different area of what they were currently doing.

They were not feeling fulfilled with their work. In other words they were happy, but not satisfied.

Happinesses can be experienced in two ways, immediately in the moment or over a longer period of time. It can be influenced by material possessions, social relationships, and life events.

Satisfaction, on the other hand, is a sense of fulfillment or contentment that comes from achieving a goal or fulfilling a desire.

Often times, satisfaction is a longer-lasting feeling than happiness.

I suggested that they look for an area in their company where they could better use the gifts they were given. Then, talk to leadership about moving into a different position.

After all, they were happy with their work but felt no satisfaction. This new area could provide them the challenge they needed to find both happiness and satisfaction without leaving a company they loved.

So are you happy, satisfied or both with what you do?

Go make a difference in someone’s life today!
