Have you ever said the phrase, "I'll do it later?"

Procrastinate

Iโ€™m willing to bet we all have at one time or another. Especially if itโ€™s something we really donโ€™t want to do.

While helping a client work through a bout of procrastination, I took a few notes and came up with some reasons why we do it and thought this would be good for everyone to consider.

Letโ€™s look at some of the potential reasons people procrastinate.

๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐—ก๐—ผ ๐—บ๐—ผ๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป: Those that donโ€™t have a clear understanding of what they have been designed to do lack the motivation to proceed. They might feel as if they have no purpose.

Some are afraid of failing or making mistakes, so they choose to do nothing. (If you donโ€™t knowย John Knotts, follow him. His book on failure is coming out soon.)

๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐—œ๐˜โ€™๐˜€ ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ณ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜: Some feel if it canโ€™t be perfectly done, why do it at all? They need to understand the term G. E. T. M. O. (Good Enough To Move On) Perfection is a fallacy, it doesnโ€™t exist.

Being overwhelmed with too many tasks on their to-do list, they may feel overwhelmed and avoid starting any of them.

This can be attributed to poor time management.

๐Ÿ‘‰ ๐—•๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€, ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐˜€: Otherwise known as notifications or distractions. When your technology settings notify you that someone posted or you have an email. These distractions can make it hard for people to focus.

To be frank, no Iโ€™m not changing my name, this was one that I personally struggled with and at times still do.

There may be some legitimate reasons to not jump right in, but I believe those are few and far between. Itโ€™s OK to be cautious, but not stagnant.

What are some things you have dealt with or have done to overcome procrastination?

Go make a difference in someone's life today!
