We all have that one friend right? No matter what you say or do, they have done it better, faster, more efficient. It seems like they have an answer for everything.

So today, I have a question for you that I believe many of us have encountered at some point in our professional journeys: How do you deal with a self-proclaimed know-it-all?

These people often overpower conversations with their unwavering confidence. (Even when they are wrong)

While their knowledge and expertise are valuable assets, their behavior can sometimes be challenging to navigate. So, I'm curious to hear your experiences and strategies for handling these situations effectively.

Here's my take on it:

Give them a chance to fully express their thoughts before sharing your perspective. This demonstrates respect and ensures they feel heard.

Assess the situation and decide if it's worth challenging their viewpoint or if it's better to let it go. It’s when you pick your battles wisely and not be in a constant state of debate, you may have a more positive and productive outcome.

Acknowledge their knowledge and expertise in specific areas, which can help build rapport. This approach encourages constructive conversations and shows that you value their input.

Always be respectful and frame your points using facts, data, or personal experiences to support your perspective. This can broaden the conversation and bring new perspectives to the table. And, when appropriate, contribute your insights and expertise to the discussion.

Emphasize the benefits of collaboration and teamwork. When you can shift the focus from individual knowledge to collective growth, it can help create a more inclusive and supportive environment.
